Since 1977, the Albacete Association of the Knife Making Sector (APRECU) represents, manages, defends and promotes the common professional interests of its members. At the same time, the Association encourages and promotes the knife making sector. Among its activities, we can highlight the Regional Knife Making Contest, celebrated every year in the context of the Albacete Fair (7th to 17th September) and whose first edition took place in 1981.
The aim of this competition is to show the knife making trade from Albacete to the public. To this effect, APRECU organizes an exhibition of knife making pieces that includes industrial and craft pieces, all of them original and unseen. The APRECU Collection arose thanks to this contest that is held since 1980. The Collection consists of those pieces that have won the first prize in the successive editions of the competition.
The Municipal Museum of Knives and Cutting Tools is one of the most important referents to disseminate and bring to the public this historical and cultural heritage that must be preserved. For this reason, APRECU has donated to the Museum the first prizes of the several regional contests held from 1981 until the present day. A total of 423 pieces of craft from these contests can be seen in the Museum.
